Devin comes from Cognition, and the clearest sign of what the team set out to build is the demo on devin.ai itself. It isn't a launch post about the founders. It's a session log. Someone at Cognition asks Devin to "Add SAML SSO for enterprise customers. Follow our existing auth patterns and let admins configure it in organization settings. Keep email login working for everyone else." Devin explores authentication across 3 repositories, opens PR #2922, tests sign-in and account linking in its own browser, and reports back that existing email login still works and all checks pass. The site doesn't tell a founder origin story. The pitch is the product: an engineer that "won't stop until the PR is ready to merge."

That focus shapes everything else on the page. Devin runs in the cloud or on your machine, spins up its own Windows, Mac and Linux virtual machines to build and test, and records itself clicking through what it built so you can check its work instead of trusting a summary. Cognition also built its own model, SWE-2, and a routing mode called Fusion that pairs a lead frontier model with a cheaper sidekick model. The company claims this delivers frontier performance "for up to 60% less." The session list hints at the range Cognition is aiming for. It runs from one-minute jobs like "Upgrade React to 19.2" to an architecture rewrite that's been working for 56 hours.

The pricing has broadened well beyond the enterprise-only tool Devin started as. There's a Free tier with inline edits and Tab completions, Pro at $20/month with access to Devin Cloud agents, Max at $200/month for heavier quotas, and Teams at $80/month plus $40 per full dev seat. If you want an agent you can hand a ticket and come back to a tested PR, Devin is one of the most complete attempts at that idea. You'll still want to review what it ships, but the browser recordings and PR analysis make that review faster.
