Microsoft Designer runs a two-step loop. First, it uses OpenAI's DALL·E model to generate an original image from your text prompt. Then it drops that image into a finished layout, picking the composition, color scheme and typography based on the content you gave it. You type a description or paste in some text, and you get several complete design options back, not a single raw image you have to build around. That second step is what separates it from a plain image generator like Bing Image Creator, which shares the same underlying generation tech but stops at the picture.

Once you've picked a draft, you can swap images, edit the copy and resize the design for different platforms. The jobs it's built for are the everyday ones: social media posts, digital invitations, posters, flyers, greeting cards and presentation graphics. It's browser-based, and the interface favors speed over fine control. You won't get pixel-level adjustments, but you'll get something presentable in a few minutes without opening professional design software or learning layout rules.

The Microsoft 365 connection is the other half of the pitch. It's free with a Microsoft account, and higher generation limits and some features come with a Microsoft 365 subscription. It's aimed squarely at non-designers: small business owners, marketers, educators and creators who want decent visuals without paying for Canva or Adobe Express. If you need quick, competent output rather than full creative control, it covers the basics well.
