Playground AI is built for that gap. It's pitched as "the AI design studio for everyone," and its focus is clearly print-ready output like merch, posters, invites and logos, not just pretty images.

The approach is template-first. Playground says it has thousands of templates across 24 categories, including T-shirt art, stickers, mockups, posters, mobile wallpapers, cards and invites, monograms and e-book covers. You start from one of those or just describe what you want (their example: "A playful, colorful logo for a candy shop called Sugar Rush"), and the app picks from a lineup of models that includes GPT Image 2, GPT Image 2.5, Nano Banana, Nano Banana Pro, Seedream, Muse Image and its own Playground v3. GPT Image 2 is billed as "the wordsmith" for legible headlines and body copy, which matters a lot if you're making packaging or invites. Edits like swap style, remove object and add to mockup are non-destructive, and there are smart layers, so you can keep iterating without starting over.

The catch is in the credit math. The free plan lets you create 10 images every 3 hours, but you only get 3 monthly generations across the headline models. Pro runs $15/mo (or $12/mo billed annually at $144) and gives you 150 monthly credits, while Nano Banana Pro is reserved for Pro Plus and costs 4 credits per generation. It's a solid pick if you sell on Etsy or Printify, or cut designs on a Cricut, and the Etsy and Printify MCP integrations hint at where the product is heading. Just know the free tier is a taste, not a workspace.
