About Hesperan Bots

Hesperan Bots runs a small team of AI agents on hardware you control. You install the app on an Apple silicon Mac or a Windows PC, or you put the server on a Linux box that stays on so your bots keep working after you close the laptop. Each bot gets one job, its own browser and, if you allow it, its own computer to drive. They hand work to each other, run routines on a schedule and keep a memory you can open, correct or delete. The brains are swappable per bot: sign in with your ChatGPT or Claude plan, plug in an API key from OpenAI, Anthropic or OpenRouter, or point a bot at a local model through Ollama or LM Studio, which costs nothing to run.

The design choice that matters most is the approval gate. The tagline is "AI bots that do real work and ask before anything that matters," and it shows up in the product as a hard rule: bots ask before buying, sending or deleting. Coding tasks happen in a separate copy of your project and end in a Changes card you review before anything lands. There's also a "Stop everything" control. For anyone who's watched an autonomous agent go sideways, that's a more honest pitch than "fully hands-off." Integrations listed on the site include research, files, mail and calendar, Telegram, and a way for your other AI tools to call your bots.

The privacy story is local-first. Bots, chats, memory, files and keys stay on your computer or server. hesperan.com only holds your account, downloads, updates and an end-to-end encrypted relay for reaching your bots when you're away from home, and the app claims no analytics or telemetry. The catch is maturity. It's version 1.3.6, free in Early Access, and the team says plainly that "it works and we use it every day, but it is still young." The iPhone app is still on TestFlight, and the public site is light on detail beyond the setup basics.

Key features

Run it where you want

Bots run inside the desktop app on an Apple silicon Mac or a Windows 10/11 PC, or on your own Linux server via Docker or Node.js 22.12 so they keep working while your computer is off.

A different model per bot

You can give each bot its own model, using your ChatGPT or Claude subscription, API keys from OpenAI, Anthropic or OpenRouter, or a free local model through Ollama or LM Studio.

Approval before anything risky

Bots stop and ask for your OK before buying, sending or deleting, and there's a single Stop everything control if you need to halt the whole team.

Team of single-purpose bots

You set up one bot per job, and the bots hand work to each other and can talk a task over among themselves.

Visible, editable memory

Everything your bots remember is shown to you in the app, and you can read, correct or delete any of it.

Sandboxed code changes

Coding tasks run in a separate copy of your project and finish with a Changes card, so you review the diff before it touches your real code.

Best for

  • technical founders who want agents running on their own hardware
  • privacy-minded people who don't want chats and keys in someone else's cloud
  • anyone already paying for ChatGPT or Claude who wants more out of that plan
  • tinkerers with a spare Linux box or home server
  • people who want agents to act but always confirm first

Skip if

  • You're on an Intel Mac or an ARM Windows PC, since the Mac app needs Apple silicon and the Windows build is x64 only
  • You need a stable, supported product for a team today, because it's Early Access software the makers call "still young"
  • You live on Android, since only an iPhone app (on TestFlight) is offered for mobile

Pros & cons

Pros

  • Bots, chats, memory, files and keys stay on your device or server, and the app claims no analytics or telemetry
  • Per-bot model choice, including free local models via Ollama or LM Studio, means you're not locked into one AI vendor
  • The ask-before-buying, sending or deleting rule plus reviewable Changes cards make it safer to let agents act
  • The Linux server option keeps scheduled routines running when your laptop is closed
  • It's free during Early Access across Mac, Windows, Linux server and iPhone

Cons

  • Hardware limits are real: Apple silicon and macOS 13 or later only, Windows x64 only, and iOS 18 or later for the iPhone app
  • The iPhone app is still a TestFlight beta, and there's no Android app mentioned
  • There's no word on what it will cost after Early Access ends
  • Public documentation is thin. Most details on integrations like mail, calendar and Telegram only surface after you install it

Frequently asked questions

How much does Hesperan Bots cost?

It's free in Early Access as of version 1.3.6, across Mac, Windows, the Linux server and the iPhone app. Your model costs are separate, unless you use a local model through Ollama or LM Studio, which costs nothing.

Which AI models does it support?

You can sign in with a ChatGPT or Claude plan, use API keys from OpenAI, Anthropic or OpenRouter, or run local models through Ollama or LM Studio. Each bot can use a different one.

Will my bots run when my computer is off?

Only if you set up the Linux server, which runs on x86_64 or ARM64 via Docker or Node.js 22.12. The desktop apps on Mac and Windows stop when the machine does.

Where is my data stored?

Bots, chats, memory, files and keys stay on your computer or server. hesperan.com only handles your account, downloads, updates and an end-to-end encrypted relay for remote access.

How is it different from using ChatGPT's agent features directly?

ChatGPT runs agents in OpenAI's cloud, while Hesperan Bots runs them on your Mac, PC or server and lets you mix models per bot. It also requires your approval before buying, sending or deleting anything.
